New NSW Government Travel and Transport Policy
Updated: 4 Feb 2021

The new policy is effective now for the whole of NSW Government.

The NSW Government Travel and Transport Policy provides a framework for all NSW Government travelling employees, covering all official air and land travel by public officials using public money.

The policy replaces:

  • previous Travel and Transport Policy (issued November 2016)
  • Travel Operational Guidelines (issued March 2017).

The policy applies to:

  • all public service departments
  • other public sector organisations and services reporting to a minister
  • all travellers where travel is funded by NSW Government (for example, students, patients, judicial-related travel, displaced families and volunteers, and others)
  • non-public officials (for example, contractors or consultants) when stipulated as part of the engagement contract.

NSW Government is committed to ensuring that anyone who travels for business purposes can do so safely and professionally, while delivering the social and commercial objectives for NSW Government.

The policy also help clusters and agencies comply with the Code of Ethics and Conduct for NSW Government sector employees, and NSW Government regulatory, statutory, probity and ethical obligations.
