Increase in landfill levy for C9698

Rates increased under the terms of the head agreement.

The updated levy rates will be automatically applied to invoices for transactions from 1 July 2026 onward. No action is required from buyers.

Effective 1 July 2026, the landfill levy under the C9698 will be adjusted as follows:

  • Metro areas: Increase of approximately 3.44%
  • Regional areas: Increase of approximately 3.49%

These changes reflect updates to the NSW waste levy from the NSW Environment Protection Authority. All other pricing components and service charges under the contract will remain unchanged.

From 1 October 2025 Waste Management Contract (C9698) rates have increased under the terms of the head agreement.

Suppliers will adjust their invoices to account for these price increases from 1 October 2025 onwards.

Contract C9698 extended until 2030

NSW Procurement is pleased to announce that the NSW Government Waste Management and Resource Recovery Agreement (Contract C9698) has been extended for a further 5 years.

New term: 2 November 2025 to 1 November 2030

Departments currently using the agreement do not need to take any action, existing customer contracts will automatically roll over to the extended term.

Increase in landfill levy for C9698

Rates increased under the terms of the head agreement.

Effective 1 July 2025, the landfill levy will increase by approximately 2.41% in metropolitan areas and 2.45% in regional areas. This is in line with updates to the NSW Waste Levy.

From 1 July 2025, the landfill levy under the C9698 Whole-of-Government Waste Management Contract will be adjusted as follows:

  • Metro areas: Increase of approximately 2.41%
  • Regional areas: Increase of approximately 2.45%

These changes reflect updates to the NSW Waste Levy from the NSW Environment Protection Authority. All other pricing components and service charges under the contract will remain unchanged.

No action is required from buyers. The updated levy rates will be automatically applied to invoices for transactions from 1 July 2025 onward.

From 1 July 2022, the landfill levy cost component increases by 3% to reflect changes to the NSW Waste Levy.

New whole-of-government Waste Management Contract

New contract to replace current arrangement from 1 October 2020.

NSW Procurement has awarded the new whole-of-government Waste Management Contract.

The new contract starts on 1 October 2020 and will be managed by NSW Procurement.

View the list of awarded suppliers by region and category.

Phased transition

Transition to the new contract will be phased, starting with sites that will remain with current suppliers.

No action is required from you right now. NSW Procurement will be reaching out to site managers to transition sites over to the new arrangement.

If needed, you can extend current contracts on a month-by-month basis until your sites are transitioned.
