Guide to environmentally sustainable procurement

The NSW Government spends around $40 billion every year on goods, services and infrastructure. As government, we are in a unique position to influence and encourage the transition to a more sustainable NSW economy.
By harnessing this purchasing power, we can fulfil NSW government value-for-money procurement requirements and improve environmental sustainability outcomes.
This guide aims to help procurement practitioners in NSW Government agencies increase the level of environmental sustainability in the way they plan, source and manage the procurement of goods, services and construction. The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) prepared this with significant involvement from NSW Procurement.
The development of the guide and templates was informed by ISO 20400:2017 Sustainable procurement – Guidance.
